Margins & Profitability

Shopify integration is here: connect Margly in one click

Margly now has an official app in the Shopify App Store. Connecting takes a few minutes, the account is created automatically — and you finally see how much your store actually earns after all costs.

TL;DR:

  • Margly has an official app in the Shopify App Store: apps.shopify.com/margly.
  • Installation takes a few clicks — the account is created automatically, the currency is set from your store, and data starts syncing on its own.
  • Margly only reads: orders including the full history, products, inventory, and customers. It never writes to your store.
  • After connecting, you see your real margin after all costs, the profitability of every product, and concrete recommendations on what to do first.
  • The first 14 days are free at the Business level, no card required. Billing then runs through Shopify Billing, directly on your Shopify invoice.

Shopify shows you revenue. Margly shows you what's left of it

The Shopify admin is good at what it's built for: selling. You see revenue, order counts, conversions. What you won't find in it is the answer to the most important question in business: how much of that revenue you actually keep — after the cost of goods, shipping, advertising, and operating expenses.

Until you have that answer, you're making decisions based on turnover. And turnover is a great way to grow into a loss: a bestseller with a terrible margin, a campaign that wins on revenue and loses on profit, shipping you subsidize on every other order.

That's exactly what Margly solves. And from now on, a Shopify store connects to it as easily as installing any other app — through the official app in the Shopify App Store, which has passed Shopify's review process.

Connecting: three steps, no API keys

You don't have to generate keys anywhere, copy tokens, or set up exports. The whole connection happens in your Shopify admin:

  1. Open apps.shopify.com/margly and click Install.
  2. Approve the permissions. Shopify shows you the exact list of data Margly is requesting access to — reading orders, products with inventory, and customers. All read-only. You confirm with a second click on Install.
  3. Margly creates the account itself. You sign in with your Shopify email, a 14-day free trial starts at the Business plan level, the currency is set automatically from your store, and historical data starts syncing in the background — thanks to an approved permission, that means the full order history, not just the last two months that apps without special approval are limited to.

You'll see the first overviews within minutes to dozens of minutes, depending on catalog size and order volume.

One practical note: the app is available via its direct link. It may not show up in App Store search yet — the link works for every store.

What you get after connecting

In plain terms: you stop guessing and start seeing. Specifically:

  • Your real margin. Margly reads purchase prices from the Cost per item field in your Shopify admin and calculates the cascade from revenue through goods, shipping, advertising, and operating costs down to net margin. Not a dashboard number — what you actually keep. (If you don't fill in Cost per item, revenue, orders, and customers work right away — margins light up as soon as you add purchase prices.)
  • The profitability of every product. Stars, average performers, and weak items based on what they actually earn — not on what sells the most. Plus purchase and selling price history, so you see how your margin evolves over time.
  • Customers who come back. How many customers buy a second time, how often they buy, and how much they spend with you over their lifetime — grouped by the month of their first purchase.
  • The AI Advisor and Growth Plan. Margly goes through your data and gives concrete recommendations with a quantified impact — calculated from your numbers, not estimated. Where data is missing, it stays silent rather than showing a number you can't trust.
  • Ask Margly. A chat over your own data: type "why did my orders drop last week?" and get an answer built from what Margly actually measured.
  • Advertising and other connections. Google Ads, Meta, Google Analytics 4, and Search Console; Czech and Slovak stores can additionally connect Sklik, Heureka, Zboží.cz, Srovname.cz, and email marketing (Ecomail, SmartEmailing, Leadhub). The more systems you connect, the more Margly sees — without connected advertising, it can't tell which campaigns lose money.
  • Visibility in AI answers. Depending on your plan, Margly measures how often AI assistants mention your store and who you're competing with for those recommendations.

Why it matters

Profit in e-commerce isn't lost in one big disaster. It's lost in dozens of small things that look harmless on their own: a product selling just above its purchase price, a campaign running on zero-margin items, shipping charged for less than it costs. You won't find these by hand — you'd have to regularly join data from your store, your ads, and your accounting, and read it all the way through.

That's a job for a machine. Margly does it after every sync — and serves the results in plain language, with a priority and a next step.

Security: read-only, nothing more

  • Margly requests read-only permissions exclusively: orders (including history), products and inventory, customers.
  • It never writes to your store — it doesn't change prices, products, or orders.
  • Uninstalling the app in Shopify ends its access immediately.

What it costs and how to start

The first 14 days are free at the Business plan level — no card required, with full functionality. After that you pick the Starter, Professional, or Business plan; billing runs through Shopify Billing, so it appears directly on your Shopify invoice and you don't enter a card into any additional service. Current pricing is at margly.io.

You can start right now: install the Margly app from the Shopify App Store. And if you want the step-by-step walkthrough, including exactly what Margly reads from Shopify, see the guide in our help center.
